6:30--The Great Plains String Quartet

The Great Plains String Quartet has been performing together in the Worthington community and surrounding area for the past 4 years. Playing violin is Melanie Loy who is the current orchestra director for Worthington schools. Also playing violin is Beth Habicht who retired in 2006 from District 518 Schools after leading the orchestra program for 38 years. On viola is Karen Pfeifer who is retired from teaching the hearing impaired and is keeping very active in volunteer work in her church and in the Worthington area. Playing the cello is Sue Simonson who is a retired registered nurse and is also very active in her church and serves in the community through many volunteer projects.
The quartet always looks forward to opportunities to perform. Their current project has organized musicians for a new Worthington Area Orchestra that began rehearsing together in September 2010. This is an exciting new adventure being made possible through a grant provided by the Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council. The first concert of the Worthington Area Orchestra (WAO) performed in December 2010 at First United Methodist Church. The second concert of WAO for this inaugural season will be held at Memorial Auditorium in Worthington, MN on May 26, 2011.

5:00--Noah Hoehn

Noah Hoehn is a fierce performer. His impassioned harmonica performances and sincere dedication to his craft gained him national acclaim as a winner of the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians not once, but twice. Noah's energetic and distinctive playing has been heard in concert halls, festivals and on national radio programs. Now it is his solo show that is truly unequaled. His singular vision to unite the sounds of new blues and marimba pop is accomplished with an incomparable live looping system. Saucy harmonica and cool marimba are looped and layered upon a foundation of acoustic grooves freeing him to sing and play at the same time. Because he programmed the MIDI sequences for his looper,  fusing technology with his songs, he is called "A modern day musical scientist".
